We buy Gold of all Genuine types, the markings above are the most common in precious metals, they indicate the content of precious metal(carat) and so value. If the markings are missing or forged then the items will need to be tested with special chemicals and/or machines. It is probably easiest to let us do this for you as the chemicals and machines are expensive and need to be handled with care. If you see a scratch on the item and a different colour underneath, then you'll know that it isn't solid Gold, but not necessarily whether it is a different precious metal or not.

Of course if we were selling a large amount, we would want to do our homework and so you could always get it valued at a local Jeweller that you trust, and then see if we are giving a higher scrap Gold price.

If you have items of different shades of gold then they are likely different carats and you should therefore get different prices for the different carat items i.e. the total weight of your Gold multiplied by the 9 carat scrap Gold price should work out to less than what you finally get offered.

Therefore, if you based the value of your Jewellery on the 9 carat price then you may well get a nice surprise when you receive your money. We never take advantage of our customers lack of knowledge, but are constantly hearing stories of others doing so, so be careful. You can check the results of precious metal testing for yourself at our shop or many other jewellers, without selling immediately. The chemicals should have the resulting colour key labelled on the bottle and the machines have readout displays.
